Ebay Buyer Protection NOT to be Trusted
I bought a website through Ebay. I called Ebay five different times and always was reassured that my purchase was protected under the Buyer Protection Policy befure I bought. I was further reassured that using escrow.com "eBay's approved escrow service," was included on the protection. I was misinformed each time, apparently, because after the I bought it and the seller reneged his 60 day money back guarantee, Ebay has left me holding the basket. They will not honor their Buyer Protection, even though during the case period, I received info from ebay that I was protected!! Ebay has really let me and everyone down with this. I am still pursuing legal options. Ebay buyers, beware!|||The eBay/Paypal protection period is 45 days, not 60 days. I cannot speak to escrow services. Susan|||OP some actual facts are usually helpful......|||Conditions under which a case can be filed under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy Buyers can file a case under the eBay Buyer Protection Policy when all of the following are true: You are an eligible buyer (see Buyer eligibility). You completed a purchase of an eligible item on eBay and submitted a claim within 45 days from the date of payment. You purchased the item on eBay by using the Pay Now option, third-party checkout, or an eBay invoice. You paid for the item in one lump payment (transactions involving multiple payments, such as a deposit followed by a final payment, are not covered). You used one of the following methods listed below: PayPal ProPay Moneybookers Paymate Credit card or debit card processed through the seller's Internet merchant account Bill Me Later eBay Buyer Protection is not available if you have paid using payment methods not specified in this policy. The item is not excluded from the eBay Buyer Protection Policy (see Exclusions). It may not be your fault but it is your responsibility Silver rule "do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you"|||You should read the details of the policy. There is a 45-day deadline for filing a claim. Intangible items are not covered. A website is not a physical item, it's an intangible item.friends Director,|||OP's "item" for sale is interesting...|||the Buyer Protection Policy Did you even read it?|||OP says that reps at EBAY said the purchase was covered. OP, if you used your CC, you can do a chargeback. If not, does Ebay allow you to sell the website and domain?Need a website fast?||||||ominbound1 From your listing " I am so sure that you will love this cure and that it will work if you follow my advice that I'm offering it on the honor system." Now , WHY would anybody bid or do a Buy It Now for $2 , when you have already given them the information? Your statement in the auction about " Feel Free to donate more than the $2" is not allowed and even more ridiculous. You are wasting your money with the listing in it's present form.|||Yes, the cure listing was mostly a joke. But if you have suffered from athlete's foot, and this cured you, you would gladly pay something for the real relief that this will bring. BUT, I called Ebay 5 times to inquire about how to buy the website and was I covered. I was told EVERY time that I was. I was told that escrow.com was approved and would indeed be included for the Buyer Protection. I DID read the conditions of the Buyer Protection, called for clarification, since the website certain raised issues if it was "intangible" and I assure you, I was told every time that is WOULD be included and escrow.com was approved. (It says escrow.com is the only approved escrow service on Ebay elsewhere on Ebay, that is why I called to confirm) I did all the homework I believed necessary, since Ebay has been good in the past, but their reps will pretty much say anything you want to hear, I believe, until money is on the line.|||Oh, and I started the process before the 45 days was up, having read the policy, even though the seller offered 60.|||omin, you should email the full story and your concerns to Jim Griffith (Griff), griff@ebay.com. He's one of the head customer service guys and should be able to help you out. At the very least, he'll be able to see to it that the reps at eBay are properly trained on this issue. Here is the part of the policy that excludes websites: Items listed or that should be listed (under our listing policy) in these categories: * Motors (except "Parts and Accessories") * Real Estate * Classified Ads Websites are digitally delivered, so they fall under this policy: Link. They must be listed as Classified Ads (properly), and so are excluded from coverage. The verbiage in the Buyer Protection policy is IMO too vague in this area, which may be causing the confusion by the reps.friends Director,|||Now THAT, Plush, is good advice. I thank you and will do this.|||I don't think they protect buyer at all. 1. The seller me all the wrong details that hey could give to make you to buy the product. I ended up buying the production believing what seller said was true. 2. After got the product I found the information was wrong. I contacted the seller. 3. Wrote several messages to the seller for which he did not protect you. Again Ebay says they can not do anything. 4. Filed a case in Ebay Buyer protection option. The person who logged the complaint wrote my description as "Warranty Issue" even though I said I was worried about the product quality. 5. The let you and the seller to fight first. After few days the said a. They are not responsible for the sellers lie. Basically means he can write what ever he wants to sell his product. b. The are not concerned about the messages you and seller had. c. They are concerned only about physical Item. The person who will speak to you will not even have a slight clue of what type of electronic item she is dealing with and what is the significance that your claim has related to the product quality. d. They consider things like mechanical. It works or not that is all they wanted. e. So finally they used the information they logged "warranty" as an escape route to get out from the protection claim. 6. One funny things, she said she closed the case while talking to me. I was surprised to know that they act as if they are listening to you and will allow you to shout as much as you want. But its all decided way before they start to talk to you. They just try to log as they chat with you and closed the case. 7. They things is that I was planning to take the lens I bought to be tested in the shop and was just waiting for the verdict to happen and then take it out as I does not need to pay a fee for testing. Now even if I say the product is not working, I don't know how I am going to convince these people. 8. They are trained with tricks to just close a transaction. The seller is clever as this is his full time job. The buyer, just because he is new, he is one who gets cheated.
ebay buyer protection is a joke!
bought 8 lip sticks for $65+, seller mailed them by USPS (not insured), supposedly it was delivered by the USPS but i never received the items i paid for. post office won't reimburse me for the lost package they said they delivered, seller won't refund money and e-bay buyer protection said that since there was a tracking # that shows it was delivered, can't help me either. we are all screwed on this one and i am the one out the money and no product. DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING WHEN YOU ARE TOLD YOU ARE "PROTECTED" -- IT'S A JOKE AND NOT A FUNNY ONE!!|||bought 8 lip sticks for $65+, seller mailed them by USPS (not insured), Insurance is for the seller's benefit only. A buyer doesn't have to purchase insurance. The seller has always been responsible for getting a package to the buyer in the condition as described and in a timely manner. A buyer purchasing insurance is a waste of money. post office won't reimburse me for the lost package they said they delivered, Do you have the tracking number? Does it say delivered? Is it possible another family member received the package and didn't tell you. Did you check with a neighbor to see if it was delivered to them by mistake? Call the post office again and see if the package is there. It very well can be. Don't just talk to one person and give up. The person you spoke to may not know what they are doing or care. I've had packages marked as delivered on the weekend when I didn't receive them. The post office re-delivers and should leave a pink or orange slip to inform you to pick the item up. Usps gives you two chances and then the item will be sent back to the sender. DON'T BELIEVE ANYTHING WHEN YOU ARE TOLD YOU ARE "PROTECTED" -- IT'S A JOKE AND NOT A FUNNY ONE!! The only joke is that you believe this. Buyer protection is almost full-proof. The seller did their part based on what you have written. You paid for your item and it is your responsibility to find out where it is. Its an inconvenience but sometimes you have to take a little initiative.|||Have you checked with your neighbors or the Post Office? Perhaps your package is there.friends Director,|||How dd you pay for these? Credit Card? Do a chargeback. Of course you would be screwing the seller, since Paypal will pass it on to them.|||Call your local post office and speak to the POST MASTER - tell them what happened and that you want this situation investigated. The package very well may be at the post office & with the delivery confirmation number, they'll be able to tell you. Good luck!!! When it happened to me, my postal carrier (who was a fill-in) stole my packages, but I got back most of them - so don't give up!!!|||post office won't reimburse me for the lost package they said they delivered How would PO know it was delivered unless it had DC ! Op isn't getting $ back because the seller has followed protocol, and PO has as delivered. I'm sorry OP if it was stolen, but I don't think seller or Ebay should be held responsible for local thefts, no more then if you sold something at a garage sale and the buyers car got robbed. You should file a police report, there may have been other thefts in your area.|||guess op is not coming back.|||OP...Why are you blaming ebay for the post office F_ _ _ up? Seller not responding
Hi folks, I recently lost an auction for an iphone and was provided a second chance offer by the seller (from Malaysia). Seller says he will send the invoice and takes about 3 days. The invoice would not be from eBay but from PayPal because apparently someone hacked his paypal acc. linked to eBay. So I waited and eventually paid for the item through PayPal. Seller communicates through email saying he has received payment and will ship in 2 days. It's 3 days now and no reponse from seller. I may be a little apprehensive, but he's recently received negative feedback for similar items he had listed. Buyers have complained about it being a fraud. What are my options?|||Malaysia....you're kidding right????|||What are my options? Sit back and relax. Sellers are not require to notify you of the shipping. Good sellers will do, but it is not required. You are in Oman and the seller is in Malaysia. It is International shipping. Depending on the shipping method, it could take up to 30 days for the package to arrive to you. You have 45 days from the day you paid to file Item Not Received dispute with Paypal. Right, since it's been only 3 days, I would sit back and relax. If the package doesn't arrive in 3 weeks, contact the seller again. Just be sure you don't miss the 45 days filing deadline.|||Thanks for the info. I was willing to let it go for a couple of weeks until I saw the negative feedback. Just been paranoid as this seller doesn't respond unless I send 2-3 messages.|||OMG! Did you "really" check out this guy's feedback? He's received 2 negatives and the other positive feedbacks he received are from people who hadn't even received their items, yet.|||BAD advice above! This is a SCAM!!! Do not pay fot this!!! You will never see the item. The only ipods in Maylasia were sent there by naive eBay sellers who got scammed out of their money by these buyers, who are now trying to sell it back to you! The negging buyer is right! This is a FRAUD!|||You were scammed. By paying a PayPal Money Request and not an invoice linked to the auction you have no Buyer Protection Policy through PayPal. You will only be covered under Buyer Complaint Policy which is significantly less comprehensive than what they cover for eBay auctions. I hope you funded your PayPal payment with a credit card. IF you do get this iPhone from Malaysia it is going to be fake.|||Ditto BuyorSell. I hope you paid with a CC. Sounds like you got scammed.|||Thanks everyone, I've opened a dispute via PayPal, lets see if this person responds. I was quite stupid to fall for it, a little too eager. Also, do I need to do the same with eBay resolution center even though I didn't make the payment through eBay? Will they entertain my complaint?||||||Well... got home from work today... and voila... there's a reply with a scan of an airwaybill. I will be convinced when I get the item in my hands, but I'm relieved for now. Thanks for the advice though, I will definetly check on the sellers before jumping the gun.|||Every sentence in your OP screamed "scam!". Malaysia, iphone, second chance offer, hacked paypal acct., 3-day invoice... And after those FIVE warning signs you still paid them!!!??? Sorry if I offend but that's amazingly naive. People like you is why scammers thrive.|||"there's a reply with a scan of an airwaybill....but I'm relieved for now." Amazing.|||You should not be relieved. You are going to get a counterfeit piece of junk.|||Well... got home from work today... and voila... there's a reply with a scan of an airwaybill. I will be convinced when I get the item in my hands, but I'm relieved for now. You're relieved that you are going to receive a fake POS? how do i prove i really didn't receive the item?
ok here is the problem, the tracking of the item showed it is delivered to my house but it is not and i never get the item. and now i try to filed a claim that i didn't receive the item but i have nothing to prove it. do you guys know how do i protect myself to get refund?|||Did you talk to your local post office? I would take a screen print of the delivery confirmation to the PO and talk to the staff there.|||If it was sent with Delivery Confirmation, I don't believe you would be eligible for a refund. Be sure to check with anyone else in your house or your neighbors - sometimes it's delivered to the wrong address (I've had them left at my neighbors' before).|||i did check my family and neighbors i even asked the mailman, he said he dont remember delivered it. i think the item is mailed to somewhere wrong by accident.||||||"i print the tracking out and asked the USPS they said they going to investigate it but they just called me after 2 days that they can't find it." Typical local Post Office answer. You need to file a report with the Postal Inspectors. They will light a fire under the local PO and investigate, exactly where the item was delivered. It may take a month or so, but they usually do find the package or at least where it was delivered. Since your seller has valid D/C showing delivered, you need to work with the Postal office/PO Inspectors. Neither Ebay , nor Paypal will honor a claim when the D/C shows delivered. Go to this link, make a report with the Postal Inspectors now. (click the work link) Link Your post local PO is just being lazy and the Postal inspectors need to investigate. It is possible, it was delivered to your address and someone stole the package. Your local PO should be taking a report of mail theft at the very least. The matter is now between you and the Postal Office/Postal inspectors.|||I would confirm with the Delivery Confirmation number the package was sent to the correct address and zip. I had a package recently(non Ebay) that was scanned in by hand at a Texas PO. The postal clerk transposed 2 numbers on the zip code and it showed delivered. The Postal Inspectors were able to track down the package and redeliver. It took about 2 months, but without contacting the PO Inspectors, that would not have happened.|||Do NOT blame this on your seller. They did everything right and they do not owe you a refund.||||||but all i have is the tracking number can Postal Inspectors really find out where the item is with it?|||i did nothing wrong too, why can't i get something return or atleast half of the money i paid? The seller sent the item, so he no longer has it. The seller paid the shipping fee. The delivery confirmation shows it as delivered. The POST OFFICE is who has screwed you out of your item. Why should the seller dip into his pocket to pay you when he isn't the one who screwed up? Your beef is with the post office.|||||||||----- I had a package delivered in the rain... DC showed delivery but I did not get it... Or so I thought! Two weeks later I opened the barbecue and there it was - safe and sound and out of the rain! ------|||"i did nothing wrong too, why can't i get something return or atleast half of the money i paid?" You can get something in return, if you would listen and follow the advice you have been given. You must go over their head and go straight to the USPS Postal Inspectors, who will light a fire under the local Post Master and the local carrier to do their jobs. The postal inspectors have ways to check/investigate when, who and where the package was handled once it arrived at your local PO. Just file the stolen/lost/ not delivered report with the postal inspectors. As stated above, your issue is with the USPS as your seller did everything they were suposed to do. The PO did not. Here are the links you need. They will take a report right over the phone. LinkLink Call 1-877-876-2455
I recieved bootleg videos. How do I handle this?
I bought a boxset of 26 Baby Einstein Dvd's and they are obviously bootlegs. I was not fully aware at the time of all the fake dvds going around Ebay until my husband pointed out that I might have bought some myself. Half of them wont even play. I am not sure how to go about handling this. Do I contact the seller first for a refund? Should I have to pay for shipping? Or should I go straight to ebay and report him for selling bootlegs? I would like my money back but I don't think sending the item back would be a good idea cause he will only resell it again. He sells a bunch of these and has 100% feedback, which I find pretty odd. I am not planning on giving him any feedback yet until this is settled. I'm sure he will not admit they are bootlegs.|||If it were anything else, I'd say contact the seller first. With pirating however, personally I think they should be reported.|||Report them to Paypal as Significantly Not As Described and make it clear they are counterfeit. Paypal will tell you what to do. If they say to return them, then you must return them.|||Follow the rules here. File SNAD, explain what you think then return the DVD's if Paypal tells you to, otherwise you won't get your money back.Need a website fast?|||Your auction listing shows this was covered under the new Ebay Buyer Protection . Look here Link File the SNAD = significanty not as described with Ebay now. Follow the procedures here Link The seller will be alerted to the dispute and either offer a full refund upon return or not. Ebay makes the decision , not the seller. You need to follow the procedures outlined in the above link. You will likely be instructed by Ebay to return the item to the seller. Make certain you return (if instructed by Ebay) with USPS Delivery Confirmation, so you can prove the return to Ebay. All communication with the seller should be via the dispute resolution console. DO not close the dispute, until you have your full refund in hand (item price and the original S&H). The return cost of shipping is on your dime. Once the dispute/claim is finalized, then you can leave appropriate feedback. * The seller used a "stock" photo image. This will make is impossible , for the seller to dispute the claim of a bootleg/counterfeit.|||The new Ebay resolution still has some glitches, I would file with PayPal. Contact the production company of the real DVD set, in this case Disney. You can send them scans or pics of the set and they can give you written proof that the DVDs are fake. It will help in a claim with PayPal and you might not have to return the items to the seller.|||"The new Ebay resolution still has some glitches, I would file with PayPal. " I agree, but I thought if the actual auction shows the Ebay Protection logo, will the system still let you file with Paypal?|||Do NOT file the SNAD as a counterfiet item. They will make YOU go through the trouble and expernse of proving it. File it as Item not described, DVDs do not work, or something to that effect. And do not wait to leave negative feedback. It could take weeks to settle the dispute, and during that time unsuspecting buyers are continuing to purchase from this scammer.|||They will make YOU go through the trouble and expernse of proving it. From my experience with Disney, it is very little trouble and no expense. It saved me return shipping since I didn't have to return the bootlegs to the seller. I simply stuck them in my shredder. If the OP files without the counterfeit info, a return will be required with the OP paying the return shipping.|||I agree, but I thought if the actual auction shows the Ebay Protection logo, will the system still let you file with Paypal? Yes. It hasn't gone to Ebay resolutions only, yet.|||If the OP files without the counterfeit info, a return will be required with the OP paying the return shipping. If the seller used a stock photo, the OP would have to photograph the items herself, find the right department at Disney to submit them to, and wait for a response. Who knows how long it will take to get the kind of proof that will satisfy Paypal. A bootleg seller with 100% FB probably keeps it by quickly refunding complaining buyers. I bought bootlegs on ebay once. Got a full refund within hours and wasn't asked to return them. That was back in the VHS days so I used them as blank tapes and still left a neg.|||I would file with PayPal!|||If the seller used a stock photo, the OP would have to photograph the items herself I could understand if the OP doesn't have a camera or a scanner. If either are accessible, that's very easy to do. Who knows how long it will take to get the kind of proof that will satisfy Paypal. In my experience, a week or less.|||In my experience, a week or less. Still the OP's choice, since it could be much longer.|||contact the seller...they will most likely refund without return. FYI, chances are, these DVDs will play on a newer DVD player or computer... Curious: are these actually available on legitimate DVDs? If so, that is pretty lame. However, if they are not available anywhere else, this might explain the seller's decent feedback score. I have to laugh every time someone claims they destroyed bootlegs they received and were able to keep after a refund...i find that hard to believe. I'm sure people who claim this NEVER even watch the movie or program either...uh, yeah....right.
Seller refuses to send me the correct total
Hi. I've recently bought a basketball card off of a seller, and I've been trying to pay for over a week now, but the seller simply refuses to send me the correct invoice. My offer was for $9.00 dollars INCLUDING shipping, but the seller has sent me an invoice that charges me extra money for shipping. I've contacted the seller several times, but he hasn't sent me the correct total. And to make matters worse the seller actually opened an unpaid item case against me! Unbelievable! What can I do? I need help. Fast.|||On the offer form where you submitted the offer, it states that shipping charges are non-negotiable. This means that you cannot say "including shipping."|||shipping charges are non-negotiable You owe the Seller $9.00 for the card plus the $3.00 US Postal Service First Class Mail Total due Seller is $12.00 Since the original price was $14.95 plus shipping You saved $5.95 You saved almost 40% .Delivery Confirmation is confirmation of delivery, not tracking.|||And to make matters worse the seller actually opened an unpaid item case against me! eBay Customer Service - Buyer Protection = GARBAGE
Well apparently sellers have a way to get out of the SNAD cases and crew the buyer. And eBay DOES NOTHING. I am so furious and disgusted right now. I was sent an item that was 100% not working and when i went to the seller for help, he said "no refunds". Well thats fine for a working item, but not one that doesnt. So i filed a case, packaged the item, sent it priority mail with delivery confirmation to the address listed in the case. Well apparently in the location this seller is in, they have to deliver the priority package in person, even when I never added Signature Confirmation. So guess what... the seller doesnt answer the door. So Ebay is waiting for confirmation of DELIVERY which is never gonna happen because the seller has to ask to have it redelivered. Meanwhile, it sits at the post office where this loser will let it sit until it is returned to me after 15 days. It has already been over a month from start to finish!!! And the ebay customer support says "we are waiting on confirmation of delivery sorry all we can do is wait." Are you kidding?! So BUYER BEWARE. eBay customer support won't help you out on this. Don't believe the so called guarantee because they can get out of it and keep their money as if you never tried to return it. Total BS. Amazon is so much better.|||Oh and of course.... this buyer had 300+ feedback at 100%, so feedback is not gonna help you in watching out for scammers. When people get hard up, they will do anything for an extra dime.|||Ebay will still refund you, even if the seller refuses the package.|||I would wait 2 or 3 more days and check the Delivery Confirmation again. If the package is waiting to be picked up, it should say "Attempted Delivery - Notice Left" or something similar. Call eBay, give them the DC number, inform them that delivery was attempted but seller has not picked up the item, and insist on a refund. You will be refunded. I bought something from a seller less than 20 miles away shipping was via USPS Priority mail. We are talking CT to NY just across the state boarder. The package was shipped the day after cleared payment and the USPS took exactly 13 days to deliver. This was in no way the seller's fault or choice. It has more to do with the USPS route than the actual distance between seller and buyer. You can not and should not base every expected delivery time on previous experience, that is very unfair to your sellers. The USPS is/has changed routing for cost saving reasons, which sellers have NO control over.|||If the seller is out of stock , this too is a violation of the same above policy! The seller did not violate policy! The seller has shipped the item, and simply does not have a 2nd one to ship to the buyer. Want to upgrade shipping; seller sort of unresponsive
The short story is that on Sunday I won an auction from a seller with 100% pos feedback. When I went to immediately paypal, I saw that the only shipping option was Parcel Post. I really, really want the item before 12-15 business days. So I immediately emailed the seller through eBay and asked if they could pretty please give me a quote for Priority shipping and I'd happily pay the higher amount. Monday I didn't get any response. Monday evening I emailed (through the eBay system) again, saying, "I don't know if my other email went through, but I'd like to pay for Priority shipping if at all possible, please tell me the price to upgrade.." etc. Tuesday (today) afternoon the seller sent me 2 invoices. Both with a quote for parcel post and neither with a personal message. (Not that I expect a major bonding moment or anything, just meaning that there's no indication that they saw my email and are only willing to send via Parcel Post.) I know it is my mistake to have initially misread the shipping option before my bid. I would very much like it if the item is sent by a faster method and I hope it is not unreasonable for me to ask, since I'm asking for a faster service through the same carrier, and not for some alternate carrier. Should I email again? I don't want to be obnoxious but on the other hand it doesn't seem they've seen my prior emails at all.|||Every day you wait and try to contact them is a day later your time-sensitive package will be delayed. Of course you know you should've read the auction and asked all this before bidding, so if you're persistent you can pull their contact info and call them. Advanced Search > Find Contact Information Oh, and if you had paid immediately, it's possible for PP to get there quicker than 12-15 day, kinda depends. No guarantees with anything.|||Well, I sent the seller another message but this time in the "Ask Seller A Question" instead of the "Please Send Me A Total" section, and he's a total sweetie and says he'll send Priority for the same price quoted for Parcel. :D|||Very cool, good seller story! To bad none of the buyers I do nice stuff like that for never come here and brag on me. Guess they know I'm too humble to tell people how good I am.|||I don't think sellers even see the notes attached to "send me a total". it is always best to send a message but also send a separate email.
Making recent purchase info private.
Is there a way to make the items I purchase private from others? If someone goes into your feedback, they can view your recent purchases. Just curious because it makes gift buying difficult if someone knows your account name and gets nosey. Thanks!|||Nope. Even if neither you nor the seller leaves feedback it's still searchable. Bottom line, start a second ID that no one knows, just sign up as you did the first time, use a different e-mail, and you can still link it to the same Paypal account.|||Thanks James. Seems a little stupid, doesn't it? You should have the right to make your purchases private. After all, when you sell something you have the right. Not to mention that the bidders for an auction is private as well. Here's another scenario for you. If you want to purchase something and give a seller a best offer, he/she may choose to decline your offer simply because you've purchased numerous related items and you're likely to pay more. Oh well. I hope someone from eBay pays attention to these threads and makes that suggestion. Thanks again!|||I'm not sure if a seller taking BO's is really going to research your recent buys, at least not a big seller. I have nothing to hide in my buying history here, and if I do then I buy it under another ID! It's also works for me if I re-sell something, I wouldn't want buyers to seee what I paid for it. My family has no idea of my ebay ID anyway, and I don't have any friends.|||You should have the right to make your purchases private. After all, when you sell something you have the right. Helpful Hints For A Safe Buying Experience
As a long time eBayer, I've come up with some helpful tips on making your buying experience on eBay a pleasant one. If anyone else has more tips, please add them to this thread to help buyers. 1. Read a sellers feedback before bidding. This is the single most important piece of information you will find - if you see multiple neutrals or negatives for quality, delivery or communication issues - you can generally believe the information. Don't bid if a seller has poor feedback. 2. IF IT SEEMS TOO GOOD TO BE TRUE - it usually IS! 3. Ask questions of a seller before bidding. If there is something in the listing you don't understand, not mentioned or is not clear - e mail the seller using the "Ask the Seller A Question" link in the auction before you place a bid. 4. If shipping price or method is not listed - e mail the seller your zip code and ask the price before bidding. Don't open yourself up for a shock after you win. Some sellers start bids at very low bid prices and have high shipping to offset it. If you can't find the shipping price - ask BEFORE you bid. 5. Your bid is a binding agreement - please don't bid if you don't intend to pay. 6. Make sure your ISP does not block E Bay e-mails and your e mail address is up to date. Some ISP's have SPAM features that block E Bay messages. If yours does, you may not receive any end of auction notices from your seller. 7. If you don't hear from your seller within 3 days, e-mail them. 8. Read the full auction before bidding. You cannot change the terms of an auction after you win. Make sure you fully agree with all of the terms (method of payment, time frame for payment to be received) in the listing before placing your bid. 9. Carefully read the payment options the seller accepts. Be very wary if a seller accepts payment via wire transfer only - many fraudulent sellers will not accept any other method of payment, as they cannot be rescinded or charged back later. Paying with a credit card is the safest way to pay, as you have some recourse if the item is not received. 10. Please check the category of the item you are bidding on to ensure you are bidding correctly. 11. If you are buying clothing and measurements are not included with the size, e mail the seller and get the measurements before you bid. All manufacturers do not cut clothing the same way. 12. Read the E Bay discussion boards for help with a problem that may arise. There are chat boards for virtually any topic you can think of - you can obtain great advice availing yourself to this free service. Other E Bayers are the best helpers in a problem situation. 13. If the item is not as described, please contact your seller BEFORE leaving feedback. Most sellers want to please their customers, especially if they have good feedback. Allow the seller a chance to correct a problem before leaving feedback. 14. If you never receive your item, e-mail your seller. If you get no response, pull their contact info and call them. If their contact info phone number or e-mail address is invalid, file an invalid contact report with eBay. You also have the availability of filing an Item Not Received dispute. This can be filed 10 days after you have paid, but you should make every attempt to contact your seller and allowing them to rectify the issue before you file. I hope these suggestions make your E Bay buying experience a HAPPY one! A good friend will come and post bail for you in jail - a true friend will be sitting next to you saying "Darn that was fun!"|||***waves to willysgrandma*** I would like to add: 15. Don't assume the method of shipping if it isn't stated. If the shipping is in line with, say Priority Mail, but the seller states "Standard Shipping" don't assume it will be sent priority mail. Also, it is good to understand how long different mailing classes take. Only Express is guaranteed in two days. I've seen packages delivered cross country in two days by regular mail. I've seen Priority take a week. The words "eBay" and "logic" do not belong in the same sentence. KKC #21|||I'd like to add some tips, too: 1. Give careful consideration to buying from a seller with a feedback rating below 98%. Check not only the negatives and neutrals in their feedback, but look at the feedback they leave their buyers/sellers. If they don't respond to negative feedback in a calm, rational way, they probably won't deal with you any better. 2. The more unprofessional the buyer/seller is, the more professional you should be. 3. ALWAYS file disputes on problem transactions once communication stalls with your seller/buyer. You may not leave any feedback, but the strike they get is far more important, especially for sellers.|||Excellent post, willysgrandma! Lots of good advice! I might also add... If you contact a seller to ask questions before bidding and the seller doesn't respond in a reasonable time or not at all, or responds unprofessionally....DON'T BID!|||If you contact a seller to ask questions before bidding and the seller doesn't respond in a reasonable time or not at all, or responds unprofessionally....DON'T BID! If sellers cannot provide an accurate description and list their shipping charges, their auctions do not deserve my bids. I've got better things to do than ask sellers to tell me what they are selling and how much it will cost me to have it shipped. I also do not bid on auctions that do not offer a return privilege. To me it's a red flag when sellers will not stand behind their sales. I also do not bid on auctions where the description includes a laundry list of information that is irrelevant. Seller didn't send me item at all, just a refund.
I am wondering if this is against Ebay policy. A seller put a GPS unit up for auction. I won it at a fair price. I paid right away. The next day the seller sent me a refund with no explination. I contacted him to asky why the refund. He said oh I sold it on another site. Nowhere in his auction did he mention that he was listing it on another site and that if I won I may not get the item. Queston about shipping.
So i just moved into a new kinda shoddy apt complex, and it seems the mailman likes to leave my packages on the apt doorstep. Im not a fan of this as i've had packages stolen before. So my queston is, is there any other type of mailing i could request from sellers besides usps? Like one i would have to sign for, or they couldn't just leave it on the damm doorstep? Thanks, and sorry if this isn't in the right place.|||I would email the sellers before bidding and ask them if it was ok with them if you won the item that they mail it out usps with signature confirmation and you are willing to pay them the extra $2.85 or whatever it cost and explain why. I think most sellers would obliged to it. I know I would.|||Rent a P.O. Box. Use that as your primary shipping address; with your street address on the second line in case the seller ships via UPS or FedEx.friends Director,|||I have seen UPS ask neighbors or anyone passing by an apartment to sign for a package, so not certain the signature confirmation is going to help you. It means you would need to be present to sign for each package. For like $26 a year get a PO box at your local PO. Much safer, for certain neighborhoods or apt complex situations|||||||||"Thanks this seems like the best option. How long will they hold my packages? I have received notices at my home address, a package is awaiting pick up at my PO. The PO Boxes are small, legal letter size. Check with your Post Master , what PO Boxes are available and the cost. Based on your description of the apartment complex, you may want all your mail to go to the PO Box.|||Asking sellers to use UPS or Fedex is going to be time consuming, expensive and will require you be home to accept/sign as well as create issues. Both methods, will make a certain number of attempts to deliver (you would need to be home) and then send your package back to the sender (seller). You would then, be required to re pay the S&H again for re delivery. This will create problems for you on Ebay and end up costing you way more than just getting a PO Box at your local PO.|||Just get the smallest cheapest box the PO has to offer~~that's all you need. They will leave a notice slip in your box and you just pick up the package at the window. You don't need a PO box big enough to fit packages into. I personally do NOT like UPS packages delivered with sig confirmation~~the nearest UPS to me is over 50 miles away and if I'm not home I sure don't want to drive over 100 miles round trip to pick up something. UPS won't deliver to my house in the winter so if I'm getting a UPS delivery I have to give an alternate address in town for the package to be left at. It's a PITA when all ebay bubble wrap sellers only ship UPS.|||kat - the PO won't even accept a large package of bubble wrap. You can get a larger PO box that will hold smallish packages. Of course they cost more. You need to check it frequently, like every 2nd or third day.|||Some bubble sellers offer USPS shipping but it costs more. My seller is one that does offer it but I get free shipping with using UPS. I used to get bubble shipped USPS but I guess since they charge "oversize" now it's too expensive for sellers to use it on a regular basis in their listings.|||I would also like to add that even though my bubble seller says "FREE UPS SHIPPING" my bubble does NOT come UPS except for VERY rare occasions. It comes by Speedy Delivery Service. Seller Added Charge After Auction Was Finished
I won an auction at its starting bid. The auction also had free shipping. My invoice shows that the seller added a charge after the auction closed. It's not a shipping charge; the seller obviously just wants more money. I contacted the seller asking the reason for the extra charge, but so far have not heard back. Seller trying to cancel Buy It Now agreement
I purchased an item through Buy It Now whose price shot up $200 in the days following my purchase. The seller now wants to cancel the auction, claiming he's out of stock and that his supplier is too. It seems he's claiming he was selling items he didn't actually have; he wants to cancel, but I've talked him in to trying to get one of the items for me. (Selling an item you don't have isn't allowed, right?) I'm concerned, though, that he's going to fall through, and every day he delays, it's going to get harder for me to get the item elsewhere. Would it be ok with EBay for me to ask him to not only refund my money but pay me the difference in price I'm now going to be forced to pay? That is, I'd agree to cancel the Buy It Now only if I first received $200 plus a full refund. Would this work? What other options do I have? I'm mostly concerned with getting the item, hopefully avoiding a $200 markup from when I actually bought. The back of the Ipod has scratches from normal use and the front screen has a few minor scratches but won't interfere while the ipod is in use. From your auction. Is this the same one you bought?|||Did you escalate the Dispute to a Claim within the 20 days allowed?|||||||||did you dispute with paypal at the same time as ebay? that would explain why ebay would deny it."This must be Thursday, said Arthur to himself, sinking low over his beer, I never could get the hang of Thursdays."|||Yes I did, should I close the paypal claim?|||NO if they already denied your ebay claim keep the paypal one open. just don't open them both at once ever again. "This must be Thursday, said Arthur to himself, sinking low over his beer, I never could get the hang of Thursdays."|||All the seller has to do is tell PayPal that you opened a dispute with Ebay and PayPal could close that case too.|||Big difference between attacking and an observation on a public forum. You stated you lost the dispute and that usually only happens for a few specific reasons. Perhaps it was simply closed automatically due to opening two cases and the seller did not win as you stated. Stick with paypal and describe exactly what was SNAD and you should be refunded unless there is more to the story.|||eBay likely closed your case in favor of the seller because you filed with PayPal at the same time. Filing with both is a big no no.|||EBay buyer protection is a big joke ! I bought pens from a seller of Malaysia. On the listing the silver pen was with a silver box. I received blue carton boxes instead of silver boxes. Ebay close the case in favor of the seller. According to eBay : " it states that the items are presented in the box but not that they came with them." The listing : "... are presented in the matching color paper box. " And the seller admited that the silver boxes are no longer availables... and remove the silver box picture from his listing. I think , because EBay want to make $$$$$$$$$ in Asia , they will protect big sellers from Asia instead of buyers from North America !|||You filed a claim because of the color of the box? How ridiculous. You do realize you would have to pay to return them and do so with a method of shipment that provided tracking in order to get a refund?
$18 to ship underwear?
I recently won four pairs of panties in separate auctions from one seller. They were .99 listings that ended under $4 per auction. The shipping cost stated on each auction was around $5.95, but I contacted the seller beforehand to ask about combined shipping. She hadn't replied back and the auctions were ending, so I stupidly decided to go ahead and just bid. Well, the seller replied conveniently after the auctions ended, at the same time in which I received a combined invoice that shows a charge of $17.90 to ship four pairs of panties. And this was with a discount applied by the seller. Now, I know I am at fault for bidding before knowing the shipping charge, you can flog me for that, I already feel dumb. However, charging almost $18 to ship a package that will weigh under a pound and most likely be sent first class is ridiculous. I sold five pairs of panties on hangars and mailed them first class for under $5 last week. I know the seller is most likely trying to make up the low auction ending prices by inflating the shipping. Is there anything I can do? I almost feel like not paying- mind you, I have never skipped out on paying for an auction in my ten years on Ebay, and don't care to have four unpaid item strikes possibly suspending my account. However, I've never had a seller ask such an inflated amount for shipping. I doubt if I contacted Ebay they would be any help? I could always pay and then leave a negative. It's rare that I've had reason to leave a seller a negative, but this is a gross exception. So yes, other than telling me "you shouldn't have bid in the first place, idiot," any suggestions on what to do?|||Pay for your items and learn your lesson. The time to negotiate combined shipping discounts is before the auction ends. You're new, and I think we all learned this lesson the hard way. It's not any fun, but it is fair.|||Paragraphs are your friend, this is how it should look: I recently won four pairs of panties in separate auctions from one seller. So yes, other than telling me "you shouldn't have bid in the first place, idiot," any suggestions on what to do? . . . which is a lot easier to read. IMHO, you should pay and not neg the seller nor ding his/her stars. If you knew full well that shipping was $5.95 which would total $23.80 then the $17.95 that you were invoiced is a discount ($5.85). If you've been on ebay for your "ten years" you should have known better. Faulting the seller when you had the ability not to bid is wrong. While I agree $23.80 to ship underwear is excessive, I would not have bid and if I did I would not want to neg the seller. If you don't pay, you will have only one strike on your account so the choice is yours. And if you whine enough to eBay, they may remove it.|||In the future ask prior to bidding about combined S&H (give auction #) via __ method to postal zip ___. If you do not receive an answer from your seller before the end of auction, DON'T bid. 4 pairs @ $5.95 S&H per item as per auctions = $23.80 total S&H for 4 auctions. Is there anything I can do? 1) Honor your bids & pay. 2) Don't pay & get UPI strikes. 3) Learn to read & ask questions BEFORE bidding. I almost feel like not paying- mind you, So, don't. It's a free country. I have never skipped out on paying for an auction in my ten years on Ebay, Why should you ? Nobody made you bid. and don't care to have four unpaid item strikes possibly suspending my account. So, pay. However, I've never had a seller ask such an inflated amount for shipping. They didn't 'ask'. They posted it in the listing for you to see. You agreed to the ship charge BY bidding. The Seller gave you a courtesy discount, too. I doubt if I contacted Ebay they would be any help? Why don't you just go to the 'help pages' re: buying on eBay ? I could always pay and then leave a negative. Sure. Good idea ! Then every Seller who looks at your Feedback left can block you from not reading their listing, and, being a p.i.t/.a. after you win. It's rare that I've had reason to leave a seller a negative, Ah, you had reason before ? Hope it was a more valid one than now. Be truthful in the neg: I bid despite shipping being stated in listing. but this is a gross exception. Yes, this IS gross. Gross for a buyer to complain AFTER bidding about somethjing IN the listing. So yes, other than telling me "you shouldn't have bid in the first place, idiot," any suggestions on what to do? 1) Pay. 2) Leave a decent rating, or, none at all, if items arrive AS DESCRIBED & in good time. 3) Next time; READ & ASK QUESTIONS & WAIT for ANSWERS before bidding.||||||Actually, I've never left a seller a negative with the exception of not receiving an item years ago, so please don't make assumptions. I'm sorry I asked since the replies are quite hostile. I know I made a mistake bidding before knowing the full cost, but should I go ahead and support a seller who is circumventing Ebay fees by inflating the shipping? I guess I thought the combined shipping fee would be reasonable. Regarding reasonable, yes, I have shipped five panties and charged $5 for shipping. But I did not start my auction at .99. I guess I've been lucky because I've never had a problem with any other shipping fees I've encountered as a buyer. Forgive me for thinking that a seller would be honest and charge something reasonable for shipping rather than list for .99 and skirt Ebay fees.|||sirenviolette, perhaps you should contact ebay and tell them that seller's can't charge no more than $5.00 to ship 4 prs of underwear because you do. It's simply a matter of owning up to YOUR mistake and learning from this. Yes, you have to pay if you're a person of integrity. However, I think it's very foolish for a seller to operate this way. How many return buyers does this sort of attitude garner? Not many, would be my guess. It's a poor way to run a business and a decent seller wouldn't do this.|||well - I do read FB and have seen other sellers do this and get roasted with multiple negatives; after which they are never to be heard from again. Seller not accepting Paypal???
I clicked "buy it now" for an item. I went to pay immediately and the page took me to a Propay website. My antivirus, etc. software displayed a pop up that said the security certificate on the site is no good. I went to the Paypal website and tried to pay that way it Paypal stated that the seller is not receiving Paypal funds. I thought that ebay sellers had to accept Paypal...it wasn't optional. No where in the auction does it state that Paypal is not accepted and I haven't ever had this issue with over 100 purchases in the past. Sellers must show in the payments area what method of payment they accept. If your listing shows the Paypal logo, yet when you go to pay the Propay comes up, the seller is not following the rules here Selling Practices policy or the Paypal acceptance policy. Caught in buying mode limbo, seller ignores my pleas
Seller states they do international shipping but ignores my "send me an invoice plus the shipping" messages since I went ahead with a purchase anyway despite no info from the sellers side. I'm caught in mid-purchase limbo and suddenly they have raised the "buy it now" price of the item that I am in the process of buying at the original BIN price. Is this strange or what?|||Your mistake is not waiting for the seller to invoice you first. Why do you think the seller is ignoring you? The seller probably has a full-time job and an actual life outside of ebay. Not everyone sits in front of the monitor 24/7. Ebay gives sellers 1-2 business days excluding weekends to respond to buyer questions. The listing should have everything you need to know before you place your bid. Did you read it carefully including any info on combined shipping? Did you ask questions prior to bidding? Ebay usually sends an invoice to your email inbox. You open the message and click on pay now or you go to your won section in my ebay and click on pay now without waiting for an invoice. What more do you need to know? Are you hoping the shipping charges weren't the actual charges and want to pay less? The shipping charges are stated in the listing it is up to you to decide if you want to pay those charges before you bid. Another question. If you are unhappy with the first transaction and the seller hasn't gotten back to you, why would you want to make another purchase from them?|||It is never a good idea to bid on any auction ,without first knowing or having a firm quaote for shipping & handling. Damaged Product?
I received the book I ordered today, the contents on the page are fine but the cover has a few dents and wrinkles on it. The seller described the product as 'good' so I'm not sure that necessarily means new. It's not a big deal to me but when I leave feedback should I bother mentioning the condition of the product? I'm fairly new to ebay.|||Condition: good It's not a big deal to me Then just leave a Positive that says >> Thanks .Delivery Confirmation is confirmation of delivery, not tracking.|||In grading books, good, really means well used. Wrong product in item listing
I did a BIN for a Febreze Luminaries Kit and Refills- that was the title and the description in her tag. I should have looked closer at the picture, because I was sent coupons for a different product. I was sent what was in the picture, but the item listing says Luminaries Kit and REFILLS- not Kit and Reed Diffusers. I feel misled. It was part my mistake also, as I should have looked closer, but the bottom coupon was a little more difficult to read and her entire page said REFILLS. Did I mess up? How tough is E-Bay on Non Paying buyers
At this point I have 7 buyers that have not paid. 3 of them have been sent reminders to pay from me, 2 are in the resolution center. They are all new buyers, with under 40 FB one is an 8. What I want to know is how tough is E-Bay on buyers that don't pay? Once you close the case and get back your fee, it's all done and you both can continue on your way. The buyer will get the mark on their account which, if sellers set their options to "block buyers with 2 or more unpaid items in the past month" (or something like that) on their listings, may hinder them from future purchases if they haven't paid for many items. Overall though, most sellers don't set this block and the buyer continues on their merry way. Always add them to your BBL though.|||"When I file the dispute and the time expires I get my fees back but then I go to see what happened to the NPB and it looks like they are just happily buying away like nothing happened." All the sellers need to do, is file the UID, wait ,close it and let the buyer rack up the right number and Ebay will stop them from bidding at some point. I have seen on the boards from time to time , buyers post whines about getting a 30 day buying suspension for one too many non paying bidder strikes.|||ebay can not force someone to payOnce in a while you get shown the light, in the strangest of places if you look at it right (Garcia,Hunter)|||Chloe..., First set up the unpaid item assistant, Link Going through the resolution center can allow a buyer to leave a neg for you. Seller refuses to help
I bought a violin case from janco420 over 45 days ago. It was a gift for my daughter. I bought it well ahead of her birthday. Gave it to her for her birthday on March 25 and after only using it a few times found it to be defective. Seller says they will exchange, but I have to pay shipping back to them. I honestly think they should pay shipping charges since they sold me a defective item. Since the transaction is over 45 days Ebay won't help and PayPal won't help. Guess I'm stuck with a defetive item. I always stand behind what I sell. I think this is very unethical of the seller. I even sent pictures to prove that the case is defective and they still won't refund any money or send a new case so that I can return this one. Any ideas? Item # is 160403320377|||It is not unethical. You had it for over a month and a half - plenty of time to check it over. The seller has no idea what might have happened to it in that time, and has every right to refuse to pay the return shipping. He is well within his rights to refuse the return completely. He is being nice about this, you should shoulder some of the responsibility. If you had checked this over as soon as you received it, I would be much more sympathetic to your side of the issue.|||Even if you had filed within the 45 day window ebay/pp would not have made the seller pay your return shipping. And you would not be refunded unless you returned it on your dime w online viewable trackingIt may not be your fault but it is your responsibility Silver rule "do not do to others what you would not like to be done to you"|||"...and after only using it a few times found it to be defective." I think your seller is being generous with you in agreeing to exchange the item. Take 'yes' for answer, count your blessings and pay to return the item in exchange for a replacement.|||Both eBay and PayPal would have required you to return on your dime to get a refund under buyer protection policy. Yes, the seller should pay for return shipping but you can't make him and you are cutting your nose off despite your face to stick to your guns and not return it. Get a replacement and then leave appropriate feedback and stars.||||||Yes, the seller should pay for return shipping but you can't make him Why should the seller pay for return shipping when the case could have been damaged any time within the 45 days the buyer had it in his/her possession?|||biffee, The seller states right in their description, their return policy. The policy is in line with ebay/paypal policies as well. It is the same policy many online retailers have as well. I took pictures to prove this to the seller. Also, one of the clips that you use to carry the case was broken from the start. Why so much time? I bought it early as a gift to give to my daughter for her birthday. It sat in the original box, untouched for most of that time. I gave her the case on March 25. We then went on vacation for a week, she used the case two times the week after we got back and that is when it started to rip. We noticed the broken clip immediately. I was not going to say anything about the clip, but after the case started to rip, I also mentioned that. To me, it's all about customer service. I own a business and if something arrives wrong I fix it at my expense if I am in the wrong. I also received an email from this seller saying that by law they do not have to refund me at all after 30 days. I've never heard of such a law and would love to be enlightened on that one. So, after an email like that....I don't even know if they would exchange. Sounds more like they will take the defective case and I'm out the complete amount - and have no case. I've already spent more than I can afford on the case to begin with. That is why I can't afford to ship it back on my dime. I feel like I've been taken advantage of because I shopped early for something and allowed it to sit in a closet for a long period of time. Bottom line. I did not damage the case, my daughter did not damage the case. It was a defective case that started to rip. I've learned my lesson. I had already left them positive feedback...they know that and that is why they are unwilling to help.||||||Well, after the emails I've received from them with all the lies...I don't trust them to refund any money or send a new case if I were to send the case back. I've never had to say anything bad about a seller like this one and I've been on Ebay for more years than I can count. Even though my numbers may not be as high as others, I'm not a novice, I know what I'm doing and I know how other sellers have handled the same kind of situations. All have had excellent customer service and I have not had to leave any kind of negative feedback whatsoever. The worst I've had to leave was a neutral one time. Even when I had one sell me pirated software they refunded my shipping...I shipped the software back and they then gave me a full refund. Interesting how I seem to be the one who looks bad when I've done everything in my power to do the right thing. I NICELY asked them for a new case. I NICELY asked them to refund shipping because the case was defective. As case should not start to rip when it's brand new. Of course I checked it over when it was shipped in, but at that time there was no rip. The rip started as soon as she started to use the case. It was nothing she or I did. It was because the stitching was not done correctly. Thankfully, I am a seamstress and I will take the time to fix this for my daughter. The seller got my postive feedback and that was all they wanted. Customer service has gone out the window. Sad, very sad.|||"Also, one of the clips that you use to carry the case was broken from the start." If you knew that one of the clips was "broken from the start," that was when you should have returned for an exchange. Again, should have been returned immediately for an exchange. You left FB on 3/2/10, but because the item was used after given for a gift, started to notice the ripping, then and only then you decide that you should return it?? You should not compare yourself to what others do. Yes if there is a problem, any seller should try and fix it, but to wait out for as long as you did, you should be glad that the seller will exchange it. Shipping should be at your expense, and not the sellers. FedEx Ground would be beneficial. BBL To me, it's all about customer service. I had already left them positive feedback...they know that and that is why they are unwilling to help.[/quote] dvgvintage
